I have a friend who's on probation and wants to get married. There's nothing in the probation rules that says?
she needs permission to get married. Are they allowed to get married and does the agent have the right to stop the wedding? Can she still take his name or if not have it hyphenated?

Sometimes, the officer or agent can say no with probable cause, like if he/she has a sneaking suspicion that the marriage is a sham, like trying to get out of state or marrying someone that has a shady past or involved in illegal activity themselves. It's not unheard of for a couple to have to wait because BOTH are on probation, but it doesn't happen this way all the time. 95% are good to go with little legalities getting in the way.
Now, a honeymoon out of state would be up to the officer/agent, possibly even enlisting a judge's permission. Most say that you cannot leave the country, state, and a few, your hometown or miles within it. If they are planning a honeymoon, they need to talk it over with the probation officer/agent and see what steps they need to take. You can get permission to leave out of state, but rarely out of country, even for a marriage.
The best thing to do is make an appointment with her officer/agent and ask all the questions. Better safe then sorry. And as for the name-taking, she would need to ask about that, too. I'm not 100% sure about the steps needed for that action.

My fiance just got off probation. It all depends on what she was on it for.
He was on it for DUI/ARD. He had no restrictions except for he wasn't allowed to drink/do drugs while on probation. (that is all probation) He always wasn't allowed to be in bar or restaurant where their main purpose was to server alcohol.
She won't be allowed to have alcohol at her wedding I bet.
She is going to have to talk to her probation officer on this one. If I was her I would wait till after. Less hassle. Plus someone else telling what you can & can not do on your wedding day isn't worth it! Its really going to make her realize she does not want to be on probation again.
My fiance was only on it for a few months & got off early any ways. But he never wants it again! Some people maybe stupid but it taught him a lesson!!

In what state? What is she on probation for?
There may be the terms of her parole may prevent her from being in a place alcohol is served, being near a minor, or being at an event with a convicted felon. Look at the terms of her parole, and scrutinize the guest list.

Hmm....ask my probation officer, who knows all the stipulations of my case and also any applicable state laws? Or toss it out on YA, where random strangers who may not even live on the same continent I do can weigh in?
Tough call...!!

Just a thought, but wouldn't it make way more sense to direct this question at her probation officer who actually knows the specific circumstances of her case?
