Answering not only the obvious question, but the underlying issues as well. Thinking through the situation and addressing other issues that may result from the input on the base question. Doing the extra research to show links from multiple sources and/or multiple viewpoints.

For me, I pick a best answer based on how well the question was answered. I have not asked many questions though, because when I do, I get a lot of "answers" that aren't that, but highly voiced opinions or negative comments. Bear in mind, I do know that sometimes there are questions asked by others that are ASKING for opinions, at which time an opinion is appropriate.

A response that shows that the answerer has some knowledge or opinion of the subject and didn't merely 'cut and paste' from wikipedia.
