  • I've been getting this "odd grammar" comment?

So I'm writing a story, and I'm on book one of the series. I'm about 9 chapters in. I have sent small excerpts to four people. Two of the four people came back and said that my grammar was odd. One of those people is also a writer, but when I read their stuff, I wasn't too impressed. The other person is not a writer, and I don't think they read a lot either. The two people that had no problem with my grammar are both writers, and one of them is about the same level and style as me.

So why are a couple of these people saying my grammar is odd? I have been through a ton of English classes and even took College Writing last year, and I did pretty well. All my response groups almost refused to proofread my stuff because they said "they couldn't find anything wrong with it." I had about five different response groups with three other people each, and all said the same thing… So why do I suddenly have two people trying to tell me my grammar is weird?

I even ended up correcting the teacher, often finding that things she marked me off for doing in my work have been in published books. I keep a small, well-written young readers' book with me for reference. All the questions I've ever had on grammar or formatting are in there. If this book does it a certain way, why can't I? Sure, my writing style is slightly based on manga and anime, but that's why I keep that book with me. It's a Zelda book. So if I break a few rules here and there, that's why: it's my style.

  • Any really good anime shows demons and supernatural stuff?

I am writing a story that is very similar to a few animes I've seen revolving around demons. I'd like to watch a few more for inspiration, but I'm not sure how to look them up. I wanna see some more to try and get some inspiration as well as identify things I'd like to avoid when making this story. I've already seen Black Butler, InuYasha, Blue Exorcist, and The Devil is a Part Timer.

Anyone got any suggestions for me? Are there any more shows that are similar to those? I'd like to avoid anything that's too sexual based, btw. More focused on action and adventure type stuff, but romance is welcome so long as it's not too… perverted -___-

  • Is it Prophesied or Prophesized?

So I am writing a story and was making a character development sheet when I came to a backstory description of an item. I reached the line "him and his prophesized successors" when the word prophesized was suddenly underlined red and my computer tried to correct it to "prophesied." I looked it up and apparently prophesized isn't a real word?

I have never ever heard prophesied before. I have always only ever heard and used prophesized and I could swear I've heard it in a few tv shows, movies, and maybe even video games. I'm mainly looking at the phrase "It has been prophesized" here. So how is it really said? 'Cause "prophesied" sounds wrong to me. I've always used "prophesized". Is it perhaps a modern corruption of the original word? I know that happens to a lot of old words that are misconceived by modern youth.

What I'm mainly trying to say here is that I wanna keep using "prophesized" if I can 'cause it just sounds better to me.

  • Is my dog sick?

This just started this morning. I have a 9 year old Chihuahua, and ever since we woke up, she's been acting funny. I went to pick her up and she started screaming. I tried gently pressing on her body to see if she was aching anywhere, and it seems to be mainly on her joints. She's been shivering and she's been pretty depressed all day. Her nose is warm and dry, her face is warmer than usual, and she's not eating a whole lot, which she's not a big eater anyway but she doesn't feel like eating unless I hand it to her. The biggest thing I noticed is that she's been lying down a lot in random spots, and when she does this, she does it slowly, puts her rear down first, then huddles herself up before plopping down on her side. That and she's been yelping a lot, which she normally never does. I'm wondering if she's sick? We recently started training her to go to the bathroom outside (she went in a litter box before. I know, it's weird) and she's not used to the cold so I was wondering if maybe that contributed to it? I'm just really worried about her, I've never seen her like this. If it continues, I'll probably take her to the vet.
